After two epic rides,
HKCC and Muntada Aid
are proud to announce
the third edition of Hijrah Ride.
The registration is now open
to riders of all abilities.
It is a cycling marathon like no other. On this 350-mile-long epic ride, the climate, course and hostile terrain will test you, but you will also be rewarded with an opportunity to perform Umrah, start your marathon outside Mecca and finish it at the gates of the holy mosque of Medina—all this to support children suffering from congenital heart defects in Africa.
The three-day long cycling marathon provides a perfect opportunity to explore some of the scenic villages, historic sights and the beautiful dessert that separates these two holy cities of Islam.
The campaign will be raising vital funds for Muntada Aid’s flagship project Little Hearts. The Little Hearts provides free life-saving heart surgeries to children with congenital heart defects from underprivileged backgrounds irrespective of gender, race or religion. To date, it has carried out 40 missions in 12 countries and performed over 2,500 cardiac interventions and surgeries saving thousands of lives.
An estimated 1. 5 million children are born each year with a congenital heart defect (CHD) globally. 10% of babies born with CHD do not survive their first year of life. 1000s more die and don't reach adulthood. In poor underdeveloped countries, the lack of specialised medical infrastructure means babies born with congenital heart defects have little or no access to necessary treatment.
The first two editions of Hijrah Ride have raised over £225,000 for Little Hearts. These donations have funded over 120 children’s heart operations in Kenya, Egypt and Tanzania.
In March 2022, 32 cyclists from H&KCC participated in the inaugural Hijrah Ride from Mecca to Madina - the first cycling team in the world to carry out this symbolic journey. During the three-day ride, the team faced some of the most challenging desert climates with solid headwinds and temperatures hitting 40C. The riders came together from various parts of the United Kingdom to support children suffering from Congenital Heart Defects in Asia and Africa.
