Fidyah and Kaffarah

The blessed Ramadan is the most loved and cherished month in the Islamic calendar. Fasting from dawn to dusk is one of the most cherished acts during Ramadan, but sometimes life happens.

However, there are ways you can still show your love for fasting.
For those who can't fast for legitimate reasons and cannot be made up aftewards must pay fidyah and for any fasts  missed unnecessarily, one has to pay kafarah.

What is Fidyah

It is a monetary compensation that is to be paid by a Muslim who for legitimate reason cannot fast during the holy month of Ramadan unable to make up the missed fasts at a later date.

How much do I need to pay?

It is at a rate of £5 for each missed fast. This should be enough to feed 1 poor person two meals for each day. If someone misses all the fasts of Ramadan, it would amount to £150.

What is Kaffarah

Kafarah is made when someone deliberately misses a fast during the month of Ramadan without a genuine reason.

To atone for the intentionally missed or broken fast, a person must fast continuously for 60 days. A person who is unable to perform the kaffarah will have to feed 60 poor people. This amounts to £300 kaffarah for each missed fast.

This Ramadan, your Zakat has the power to provide... free heart interventions to children living with congenital heart defects. Your sadqah can help us provide free and safe drinking water in communities where children have to walk miles to the nearest source.

Zakat-ul-Fitr is different to the annual Zakat payment and is due before the end of Ramadan before Eid prayers.

This Ramadan you have the power to provide free heart interve-tions to children living with congenital heart defects.
