Gift of Sight Niger - Day 2
It is estimated that regionally, just three ophthalmologists per million population are available in Sub - Saharan Africa.
Overall, there is a catastro phic shortage of professionals qualified to deliver optometry services in the region, insufficient eye health personnel in rural areas, and extremely low cataract surgical rates.
During our ongoing deployment, we aim to provide at least 800 cataract su rgeries and access hundreds of patients with prescription glasses.
Since 2021, Muntada Aid has carried out over 4000 cataract surgeries in four countries.
