UK-based international relief and development agency Muntada Aid will launch its 2017 Ramadan campaign on Saturday 20th May, which will aim to feed 500,000 people and support others affected by the Syrian civil war. In a year that has seen unprecedented global famine in Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen the need has never been greater for help to be given. Currently there is 65.3million people who have been forcefully displaced fleeing war, conflict and violence – this is the largest number the world has ever seen. Hamid Azad, CEO at Muntada Aid said; “ The world is facing the largest humanitarian crisis it has ever seen. Over 20 million people, in four countries are a risk of starvation. We all need to act now to avoid a global catastrophe. “Aside from starvation, millions more are at risk from suffering and dying from disease. “ “Last year, over £100 million was raised in the UK during Ramadan by charities to help those in need. This year, we are aiming to exceed this amount raised.” In addition to giving urgent aid to those affected by famine, Muntada Aid’s Ramadan campaign will give vital supplies to refugees who are in Sid, Serbia and to its other key projects – the Little Hearts Project and Broken Minds. The Little Hearts Project is an award winning global first, in giving free life-saving heart operations to babies and children who suffer from Congenital Heart Defects. The Broken Minds project works with a potential lost generation of Syrian refugee children who need psychological treatment to help them rebuild their shattered lives and embark on a future free from the trauma they have encountered through the Syrian civil war. Muntada Aid’s Ramadan Campaign launch will take part on Saturday 20th May, at 5pm at the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce, 43 Upper Grosvenor Street, W1K.
