Why We Provide Hot Cooked Meals During Our Gift of Sight Missions?
Our Gift of Sight missions are free to people suffering from various eye conditions, including cataracts. The people who attend these missions come from far-flung areas, some making 18-hour journeys to see a doctor.
Most of these people come from some of the most deprived communities in the world.
The nature of the operation dictates that these people, who often travel with their family members, have to stay for the night so that doctors can remove their eye patches to check their eyes’ condition the following day.
Many people lack funds to pay for accommodations and food in the town, so they stay in the hospital compound, often going hungry for a good part of 24 hours.
To facilitate their stay, Muntada Aid in Niger launched the initiative of providing dinner to everyone staying inside the hospital compound during our Gift of Sight missions.
It is hard to comprehend how helpful this initiative has been. We often get families telling us they would have otherwise stayed hungry for their entire stay at the camp if Muntada Aid had provided them with the food.
Since 2021, Muntada Aid has carried out over 4000 cataract surgeries in four countries.
