What is Aqiqah?

Aqiqah is the sacrifice of livestock, such as goats and sheep at the birth of a child. It is a prophetic tradition part of the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is generally recommended on the seventh day after a child's birth. However, people often do it later at the time and place of their convenience.

The sacrifice is often divided among family and among those in need.
